Happy St Patrick’s Day!

17 03 2008

Just a short post to wish all my customers a Happy St Patrick’s Day!

st-paddys-2.jpg

Facts in brief

  • St Patrick really existed
  • Born in Britain (probably in Wales) in 5th century AD
  • His father, Calpurnius, was a Roman official
  • St Patrick was originally a pagan, not a Christian
  • Taken to Ireland as a slave at age 16
  • Escaped after 6 years
  • Became a Christian priest, and later a Bishop
  • Returned to Ireland as a missionary
  • Played a major part in converting the Irish to Christianity
  • Some of his writings survive, the Confessio and the Letter to Coroticus

Doubtful extra facts in brief

  • Born in 387 AD at Banwen in Wales
  • His original name was Maewyn Succat; he became Patrick when he became a bishop
  • Studied in France at the monastery of St Martin’s in Tours
  • Went to Ireland in 432 AD
  • Died either in 461 AD, or 493 AD (unlikely)
  • Taught by Saint Germaine
Thanks to the BBC for the above facts

Secret Santa!

16 12 2007

secret_santa_kiosk.jpgCelebrity Trollop created a signup kiosk for a Secret Santa game she will be running in Second Life.

The rules are simple:

  • Find a kiosk and touch it to signup yourself (at Le Zoo (136, 26, 22) or Redux NW (121,37, 22)
  • On December 19 at noon SLT, signups will close and recipients randomly assigned. Each person in the pool will get one recipient to buy a gift for — notification of your recipient’s name will come in the form of an in-world instant message. (If we have an odd number of recipients, I will take two.)
  • On or before December 25, buy your recipient a gift, anonymously if possible. Note that OnRez will deliver gifts (even no-transfer items) to your recipient anonymously.
  • Please don’t spend more than L$500, but spend at least L$100. You may purchase your recipient more than one gift, if you like as long as the total is less than the maximum.
  • On December 26, your recipient will find out her Secret Santa!

If you’d like a Secret Santa signup kiosk for your own parcel, go to Le Zoo (146, 19, 22), find the OnRez kiosk holding the secret santa prim, and then buy one for L$0. You can also get one from Celebrity Trollop’s online store here for L$0 — whichever is most convenient. Thanks for helping spread some holiday cheer.
